There is a moment, somewhere above 17,000 feet on the Khardung La, when the air thins and the world simply opens. Snow peaks in every direction, a ribbon of road falling away into a brown-and-ochre desert, prayer flags snapping in a wind that has crossed the whole Himalaya to reach you. This is Ladakh, and nowhere else in India feels remotely like it.

They call it Little Tibet, and the name fits — whitewashed gompas cling to the ridges, monks in maroon cross the courtyards, and the Indus runs through it all, grey with silt in summer, aquamarine in autumn. But Ladakh is more than a monastery trail. It is double-humped Bactrian camels padding across the dunes of Nubra, it is Pangong Lake changing colour hour by hour along a shore that touches China, and it is the deep, clean quiet of a high desert where the loudest sound is your own breath.

This six-day journey is the classic introduction, and we build it the right way — a gentle first day to let your body meet the altitude, then out to the monasteries, over the great passes to Nubra, and finally to Pangong. Ladakh is far from our home ground in the plains, so we run it with trusted Ladakhi guides and drivers who were born to this air, know every pass and permit, and read the mountains the way we read the Taj. All you bring is a sense of wonder and a warm jacket.

Tour highlights

The high Himalaya, done the right way

Private, guided, permits & acclimatisation handled. From ₹55,000 / person — final quote flexes with hotels, camps and group size.

Why travel Ladakh with us

Altitude, taken seriously

We build a full rest-and-acclimatise day into the start and pace the route so your body adjusts — no dawn dash to a 5,000 m pass on day one. Your safety shapes the schedule.

Permits, sorted for you

Nubra and Pangong sit in Inner Line areas that need permits and photocopies at every checkpoint. We handle the whole paperwork so you never queue at the Collector's office.

Local Ladakhi guides

Ladakh is far from our plains — so we run it with born-and-raised Ladakhi guides and drivers who know every pass, gompa and weather turn, and speak the mountains fluently.

Your own vehicle, all the way

A private car and a driver who has done these roads a hundred times — no shared jeeps, no strangers, and someone who knows exactly when a pass is one-way traffic only.

Real places to stay

Hand-picked hotels in Leh and a genuine deluxe-camp night under the Nubra stars — comfort where it counts, character where it matters.

Yours to extend

Add Tso Moriri, the Zanskar valley, a camel safari or an Indus rafting run — the six days are a spine you can lengthen however your legs and lungs allow.

Six days, day by day

A framework, not a script — and the first day is deliberately slow. Altitude sets the pace here, not us.

Your Ladakhi guide meets you at Leh airport (11,500 ft) and takes you to your hotel. Today is for doing almost nothing — rest, water, no alcohol — while your body meets the thin air. As evening cools, a gentle stroll to the Shanti Stupa and the Leh market. Overnight in Leh.

Now you’re ready to explore. Out into the Indus Valley to the great gompas — Shey, the old royal capital; Thiksey, rising tier upon tier like a small Potala; Stok Palace, still home to Ladakh’s royal family; and the riverside calm of Sindhu Ghat. Lunch at a Stok homestay. Overnight in Leh.

The big one. The road climbs to Khardung La at over 18,000 ft — among the highest a vehicle can go on earth — then drops into the Nubra Valley, the “valley of flowers” between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges. Visit Sumur and the Samstanling Gompa. Overnight in a deluxe camp or hotel in Nubra.

Morning at the Hunder sand dunes, where double-humped Bactrian camels plod across a desert ringed by snow peaks (a camel safari is optional). Then back over Khardung La to Leh for an easy afternoon — rest, or wander the bazaar. Overnight in Leh.

An early start for the drive to Pangong Tso, crossing the Changla Pass at 5,486 m. The lake appears without warning — 130 km of water so blue it looks unreal, shifting shade by the hour, running clear across the line into China. Time on the shore, then the drive back. Overnight in Leh.

An early transfer to Leh airport for your onward flight — the mountains, the monasteries and that impossible blue behind you now, and unforgettable.

Good to know before you go

Ladakh is remote and high — a little preparation makes all the difference. Here’s the honest guidance.

Acclimatisation is real

Leh sits at 11,500 ft, and you may feel breathless or headachy for a day or two — that's normal. Rest on arrival, drink plenty of water, skip alcohol, and take it slow. If symptoms worsen, we help you see a doctor at once. Our built-in first day exists for exactly this.

Permits & paperwork

Nubra, Pangong and Tso Moriri lie in Inner Line areas needing permits, checked at every barrier. We arrange them and carry the photocopies — you just bring your passport (and, for the flight in, a valid photo ID).

Best time to visit

June to September, before the passes snow shut. Summer days are 20–25°C with fierce sun; nights are cold. This window also holds Ladakh's vivid monastery festivals — tell us your dates and we'll flag any that fall nearby.

What to pack

Layers win here — light woollens and a windproof jacket even in summer, plus thick socks, gloves, a scarf and sturdy shoes. And don't skimp on sunscreen, lip balm and good sunglasses; the high-altitude sun is intense.

“The acclimatisation day felt like a waste until day three, when I watched other tourists struggling at Khardung La and I was fine. These people know the mountains. Pangong left me speechless.”

Questions travellers ask

It’s worth respecting, not fearing. Leh is at 11,500 ft and most people feel a little breathless or headachy for a day or two — which is why we build a full rest day into the start and pace the route gently. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol early on, and we help you reach a doctor immediately if symptoms ever worsen.

Yes — Nubra, Pangong and other Inner Line areas need permits checked at every barrier, and we arrange them all and carry the photocopies. You simply bring your passport and a valid photo ID.

June to September, before snow closes the high passes. Summer days are pleasant (20–25°C) with strong sun and cold nights — and this window holds Ladakh’s colourful monastery festivals too.

By air — Leh has regular flights from Delhi (and Chandigarh, Srinagar, Jammu). Mountain weather can delay or cancel flights, so we build a little buffer into your plans. Flights aren’t included in the base price but we’ll gladly arrange them.

It’s a road-based tour, not a trek — most of the effort is simply being at altitude and some long, spectacular drives. Reasonable fitness is enough; it suits couples, older travellers and families who are comfortable with heights and simple comforts.

Absolutely. The six days are a spine you can extend — Tso Moriri lake, the remote Zanskar valley, a camel safari in Nubra or an Indus rafting run. Just tell us and we’ll reshape the trip.

Layers — light woollens and a windproof jacket even in summer, plus thick socks, gloves, a scarf and sturdy shoes, and plenty of sunscreen, lip balm and sunglasses for the fierce high-altitude sun.

It can be, with care — the altitude is the main consideration. We’ll advise honestly based on your group and can slow the pace, add rest days, or suggest a gentler route if needed.
