Jaipur is the flourish at the end of the Golden Triangle — a city painted terracotta-pink for a royal welcome and never quite toned down since. Above it sits Amber Fort, all ramp and rampart and mirror-hall; below, the old walled city is a grid of arcaded bazaars where whole streets specialise in one craft — block-print here, lac bangles there, gemstones a lane further on.
It’s a place that rewards knowing. Our Rajasthani guides get you to Amber before the coaches, steer you to the honest jewellers rather than the commission traps, and know the rooftop where the Pink City spreads out gold at dusk. Come for the forts; stay for the colour and the craft.
What to see & do in Jaipur
- Amber Fort — the hilltop palace-fortress of ramps, courtyards and the dazzling Sheesh Mahal.
- Hawa Mahal — the ‘Palace of Winds’, a five-storey honeycomb of 900+ windows.
- City Palace — still the royal family’s home, with its courtyards, gateways and museums.
- Jantar Mantar — the UNESCO observatory with the world’s largest stone sundial.
- Nahargarh Fort at sunset — the whole Pink City glowing below you.
- The old-city bazaars — block-print textiles, lac bangles, blue pottery and gemstones.
- A block-printing or gem-cutting workshop — meet the makers behind the crafts.
When to visit
October to March is ideal — warm days, cool evenings, clear light on the forts. Jaipur is hot from April, though the pre-monsoon and monsoon months have their own drama and fewer visitors. We start fort mornings early to beat both the heat and the crowds.
How Jaipur fits into your trip
Jaipur completes the Golden Triangle and is the gateway to the rest of Rajasthan — Udaipur, Jodhpur and Pushkar all open up from here. A day sees the headline sights; two lets you slow down for the bazaars and a workshop, or add a wildlife detour to nearby Ranthambore.
