It is one of the strangest and most beautiful places in India: an entire imperial city, built from rose-red sandstone in a single burst of ambition, then walked away from and left standing. Emperor Akbar raised Fatehpur Sikri in 1571 as his new capital, complete with palaces, courtyards, a colossal gateway and a great mosque — and within fifteen years abandoned it, defeated not by war but by a failing water supply.

What remains, forty kilometres from Agra, is a ghost city in near-perfect condition. Stand beneath the Buland Darwaza, the highest gateway in Asia; wander the audience halls, Jodhabai’s palace and the whimsical five-storey Panch Mahal; and step into the serene white-marble dargah of the Sufi saint Salim Chisti, where pilgrims still tie threads of hope to the lattice screens.

Most day-trippers rush past it on the road to Jaipur. This half-day gives it the time it deserves — with a private car from your Agra hotel, an Agra-born guide who brings its stories alive, skip-the-line entry and a proper buffet lunch. A perfect add-on to any Agra stay.

Why do it with a local guide

The stories behind the stones

Fatehpur Sikri is silent — a guide brings it roaring back: Akbar's vision, the saint's prophecy, why a perfect city was left to the wind.

Skip every queue

Entry is pre-arranged with skip-the-line access, and all fees are included — you walk straight in.

Lunch, sorted

A proper buffet lunch at a good air-conditioned restaurant is included — no scrambling for a decent meal in a small town.

Your own car from Agra

A private AC car collects you from your Agra hotel and brings you back — never a shared coach.

Agra crafts on the way back

If you like, we'll stop at Agra's handicraft markets — marble inlay, leather, carpets — on the return.

Publicly reviewed, independently

Your half-day, step by step

A framework, not a script — morning or afternoon, timings flex around you.

Your guide and private car collect you from your Agra hotel or the railway station and set off for Fatehpur Sikri — about an hour on the road.

Skip-the-line entry, then an unhurried tour — the Buland Darwaza, the dargah of Salim Chisti, Jodhabai’s palace, the Panch Mahal and the great audience halls, with your guide’s stories throughout.

A relaxed buffet lunch at an air-conditioned restaurant, included in your tour.

If you’d like, a stop at Agra’s famous handicraft centres — marble inlay, leatherware, carpets — before your car drops you back at your hotel or station.
